Some
Bible History
Septuagint
Bible - Translated to Greek from Hebrew, 300-200 BC.
Septuagint means seventy in Latin to recognize the 70 Jewish
translation scholars commissioned by King Ptolemy
Philadelphus
in the Letter
of Aristeas.
Apocrypha
Books or Deuterocanon. The term "Apocrypha"
was coined by St Jerome, and generally refers to the set of
ancient Jewish writings written during the period between the last
book in the Jewish scriptures, Malachi,
and the arrival of Jesus Christ. The Septuagint reordered the
books to include the books now known as the Apocrypha and gave the
first five books of scripture, The Torah
or Pentateuch,
Greek names e.g. Genesis is from the Greek for
"creation" and Exodus for "going out".
Vulgate
Bible-Translated to Latin from Greek and Hebrew, 400
AD.The Roman Empire adopted Christianity and the Roman Pope
commissioned a scholar called St Jerome to translate the Bible
into Latin. He followed the book ordering system used by the
Septuagint.
